Podcast Episode: Die Jugend der DDR grüßt die Jugend der Welt. Wie die DDR Medien und Popkultur als Soft Power einsetzte

In this podcast episode, Louize Brudermann, an undergraduate student of art history, investigates how the German Democratic Republic employed media and pop culture as instruments of soft power. Centering on the 10th World Festival of Youth and Students, held in East Berlin in 1973, the episode examines how the event functioned as a political and cultural showcase during the Cold War.

Louize produced the episode as part of Anna-Marie Kroupová’s proseminar “Art as Soft Power,” which explored state-socialist cultural diplomacy in Central and Eastern Europe.
