Disciplines in Motion: First Session Successfully Launched

The winter semester conversation series “Disciplines in Motion – Am I Doing This Right? Research Ethics in Historical/Cultural Studies” has officially begun. Yesterday, the first session of this three-part series at the Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical-Cultural Studies took place, bringing together early career researchers and colleagues from across institutions for an engaging lunchtime discussion.

This semester’s edition of Disciplines in Motion focuses on the ethical dimensions of historical-cultural research: the practical dilemmas we encounter in our work, the frameworks that guide us, and the everyday challenges that require critical reflection and responsible decision-making. The series creates a space to think collectively about questions that cut across disciplines: from fieldwork and data collection to handling sensitive materials and publishing research.

Organised by Alisa Santikarn, Barbara Pavlek Löbl, and Hanna Worliczek for the Pre- and PostDoc Assistants of the Faculty Center, the conversations aim to deepen exchange within the research community in Vienna and foster connections across fields and institutions.

With the opening session now successfully concluded, we warmly invite colleagues to join the upcoming discussions this semester:

18 December 2025Fragments of the Past: Working with Material Culture and Human Remains
15 January 2026The Public Good? Considerations in Archiving & Publication

For organisational purposes, please register by email.

A successful first session: “Narratives and Practice: Data Collection with Interviews” with Anna Sourdille (Uni Vienna), Laura Burke (ÖAW-ISA), Michael Hollogschwandner (Uni Vienna) and Alisa Santikarn.
