To conserve—yes, but how, where, and for whom?
Our new open-access volume, Situated Conservations, reminds us that knowledge is always made from somewhere: it is embedded in bodies, places, and lived histories.
Bringing together voices from Senegal and across Africa, the book reimagines what it means to conserve on the continent—moving beyond extraction and appropriation toward care, collaboration, and relational practices.
Born from the Ndar (Saint-Louis) conference in 2025 and published in Dakar one year later, this volume is a commitment to producing and safeguarding knowledge from within, and for shared futures.
