Unexpected Histories: The Czech Butcher’s Hat Goes Global
Our colleague Anna-Marie Kroupová recently contributed to a panel exhibition at the Czech National Museum of Agriculture in Prague.
Titled “How Did the Czech Butcher’s Hat Conquer the World? The Unexpected History of the Lafa Hat”, the exhibition traces the surprising international trajectory of a seemingly modest object: the traditional Czech butcher’s hat. By looking closely at this everyday item, the project reveals how material culture can travel across borders, industries, and cultural contexts – opening up broader questions about craft, identity, and global exchange.
The exhibition was installed in January and is expected to remain on view until March at the Czech National Museum of Agriculture in Prague.
We warmly congratulate Anna-Marie on her contribution to this fascinating tracing of an object with an unexpected global story (remember our GloCo Blog post about the hat in Senegal?).
