Upcoming: ICOM Europe Conference “Heritage, Museums, Collections” in Rome

From 24–26 September 2025, ICOM Europe, together with the Italian Ministry of Culture (DIVA Department), the Colosseum Archaeological Park, and ICOM Italy, will host the international conference “Heritage, Museums, Collections. Professionals’ Sharing of Skills between Africa and Europe” in Rome. Co-organised with ICOM Africa, ICOM Arab, ICOFOM, and other committees, the event forms part of an ICOM SAREC project.

The conference discusses how African museum heritage is considered in European institutions by comparing concepts of heritage and museum in African and European thought and practice. It will feature keynote lectures, panel discussions, and comparative case studies from museum professionals across both continents.

On Thursday, 25 September, Noémie Etienne will serve as coordinator of the roundtable and debate in the session on “The concept of museum in African and European thought and practice”, moderating discussions between Placide Mumbembele, Daniele Jalla, Didier Houenoude, and Cecilia Pennacini.

The program concludes with further panels on heritage, musealisation, and community roles, alongside a final roundtable and a visit to the Museo delle Civiltà in Rome.
