The Institut national d’histoire de l’art (INHA) invites you to a presentation of Echoes, Ripples, Wake: Casting Art and Flesh (De Gruyter, 2026), edited by Yaëlle Biro and Noémie Étienne.
Bringing together 18 contributions, the volume reconsiders casts as objects that extend far beyond the notion of mere copies. Spanning the Renaissance to the digital age, it examines how casts shape understandings of reproduction, authenticity, and power across international contexts. Addressing questions of art, science, colonial histories, and restitution, the book highlights the multiple and shifting meanings of casts in the production of knowledge, heritage, and cultural imaginaries.
The presentation will feature the editors Yaëlle Biro (INHA) and Noémie Étienne (University of Vienna), who will discuss the themes and questions raised by the publication.
The event is part of INHA’s À livres ouverts series, which brings authors of recent publications in archaeology and art history into conversation with the public.
