New Open-Access Book: ABC Arts & Museums. Colonial History and Indigenous Voices
We are pleased to share the open-access publication ABC Arts & Museums. Colonial History and Indigenous Voices, edited by Sara Petrella (University of Fribourg) and Mylène Steity (University of Neuchâtel), published by De Gruyter as part of the series Traces. Public History and Heritage Studies (Vol. 6).
The volume addresses ongoing debates on colonial histories in museums, focusing on questions of provenance, ownership, and the definition of “art.” Structured as an ABC of arts and museums, it brings together scholars, artists, activists, and practitioners to reflect on ethnographic collections, colonial narratives, and Indigenous perspectives.
The book includes an introduction by Noémie Étienne, situating the project within current discussions on decolonization, knowledge production, and museum practice.
📘 The publication is freely available in open access.
