Happy New Year with recent Publications!

Dear friends and colleagues,

we hope you’ve had a great start to the new year! To kick off 2026, we’re happy to share two recent publications that highlight exciting research by our team and members of our extended community.

New Article co-authored by Anna-Marie Kroupová
We are pleased to share a new article by Anna-Marie Kroupová, Thomas Zimmel and Karl Klaus Körner, published in the Belvedere Research Journal (Vol. 3, 2025).

Titled “Calm Before the Storm? A New Interpretation of Two Seascapes by Lorenzo Butti in the Belvedere”, the article offers a fresh reading of two seascapes painted in 1846 by Lorenzo Valentino Butti.

Through close iconographic analysis, archival research, and maritime and meteorological expertise, the authors demonstrate that the paintings were conceived as a pair and linked to concrete historical events in Trieste in 1844. The study revises both the original titles and the assumed Venetian setting of the works, revealing their political dimension as expressions of Habsburg imperial power.
