New Publication: Indigenous Heritage and Digital Resistance in Thailand
A new chapter by Alisa Santikarn, “Social Media and Subversion: Digital Platforms as a Tool for Indigenous Resistance in Thailand,” has been published in the volume Inclusive Heritage.
Focusing on the Kui, an Indigenous community in northeast Thailand, the chapter examines how social media platforms are used to challenge state narratives that deny Indigenous presence. These digital spaces function both as tools of resistance and as alternative archives, enabling the sharing and preservation of language, history, and cultural heritage beyond official frameworks.
The chapter highlights how digital media can empower Indigenous communities to reclaim heritage and identity by subverting dominant heritage discourses.
