MA Seminar Visit to the MAK’s Postcolonial Tour
As part of her MA seminar, Noémie Étienne and her students recently visited the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna to participate in the MAKtour: Postcolonial Tour.
The tour examines how European museums and collections were shaped by imperialism and colonial systems of extraction. Drawing on selected objects from the MAK collections, it highlighted the ways colonial structures created global entanglements that continue to influence museums and Austrian decorative arts today.
The visit offered valuable critical perspectives on museum collections, heritage, and the ongoing legacies of colonialism within cultural institutions. We warmly recommend the tour to anyone interested in art history, museum studies, and postcolonial approaches to collections and display.
